This blog entry includes an interview with a music professional working within the industry, affiliated with EMI Christian Label Group.  I will include words of advice to anyone who is considering entering the music industry as a profession, from video clips of an interview with Ms. Leigh Ann Hardie.  The posted information came from http://www.artistshousemusic.org/videos/advice
+for+starting+your+music+industry+career, with clips from an interview with Ms. Hardie, the Vice President of Strategic Initiatives and Publicity for EMI Christian Label Group in Nashville.  This advice is deemed vital for taking your career to the next level.  EMI is an industry leader and a full service record label.  In the interview that was recorded October 5, 2010, Ms. Hardie explains when an artists first gets their foot in the door, worrying about when getting your promotion is a huge distraction, and you should focus on your plan and over-deliver; in consequence your promotion will come in time.  She suggests that it’s wise for artists and music professionals to remain as students, constantly curious of music, marketing, and consumers.  This stewardess towards the music industry must be continual because it is a market that is always changing.  Another important aspect of being effective within the music industry is having strong communication skills.  In this industry, there are many forms of communication that are used to inform, motivate, excite people, and call people to action.  Emails and last minute presentations, which are persistent sources of communication, should always convey a persuasive and enthusiastic motivation towards the artists and their brand.

In another clip, Ms. Hardie says EMI is really into artist development, in which they would literally take years to develop the artist, their craft, and their audience.  Recently, the artists they have signed are independent and have a great stage performance and a developed fan base.  She professed how the label must really know and understand the artist and their artists’ audience for the company to really help the artist grow in a positive direction.  To view the interviews and other clips, please follow the link http://www.artistshousemusic.org/videos/artist
